The Old Town has, as the only attraction in Aarhus, acquired five stars in the national quality rating system with the comment of being an attraction of international standards.
The Old Town is an open air museum for town life and is the first of its kind. The museum was founded on 1914 with the re-building of the Old Mayor’s House and has since expanded into a smaller market town with 74 historical houses. The Old Town is a living museum, a live image of what life was like in the old market towns. The Old Town is one of a kind and the museum has welcomed more than three million guests over the last decade.
The buildings that have been re-erected most recently are the Mintmaster’s House from the 1600s and Eilschous houses, where H.C. Andersen was a frequent visitor when he grew up in Odense.
